How to Practice & Learn

You should begin by emphasizing these practice words that contain the   "r"  sound.  You want to emphasize the part of the word that contains the "r" sound.  This will help you to learn it quickly.

With practice, your pronunciation will get better and better, and producing this sound will feel easier to do, and soon, very natural.  It should sound  normal and natural in your everyday speech.

The "r" sound can be found in three different locations within a word.

When it is the first letter or sound of a word, we will call that the "initial" position.

When the "r" sound is at the end of a word, that is the "terminal" position.

If the word contains an "r" anywhere between the first and the last sound, we will call that location the "medial" position.

The "r" sound will perhaps require more attention than other sounds that we will be working with in Accentgone.  It is quite unique to the English language.  Many students will not have this sound in their first language.
